Castlegar is a safe, friendly community located in the Kootenays region of south-east British Columbia (Canada). It borders the United States to the south, the breath taking Rocky Mountains to the east and scenic Vancouver to the west. The area is known for its spectacular scenery and the abundance of activities available throughout the four seasons .
In summer, the Kootenays' lakes and rivers allow vacationers to swim, canoe, and boat. There are nine golf courses in the area. The mountains are excellent for hiking and mountain biking.
Many of the largest fairs and festivals take place during summer.
In winter, the snow falls and cross country and down hill skiing are popular. There are 2 world class ski hills nearby. The lakes freeze over and allow for easy and exciting snowmobile travel as well as ice skating.
ESL Castlegar , in the KOOTENAYS, is pleased to be your guide and explain this wonderful land to you. Students from all over the world, ages seventeen to ninety, professional and non-professional, gain rapid facility in their use of English as a Second Language (ESL) through our unique method of English language immersion.
Students stay (homestay) in the home of a Canadian family. They live a "Canadian life," interacting with their Canadian family in a totally English environment while they receive intensive English lessons in a class for 15 hours per week from an ESL teacher and also 10 hours of conversation. Lessons and vocabulary are needs-based and personalized to suit each student.
In their free time, students are taken for local tours, including wild life, heritage buildings, festivals and museums, with ample time to learn more about the area and improve their photography skills.
